Reaching the Roof of Africa for ED

group stood together in Moshi, Tanzania ready to climb kilimanjaro

On Tuesday 5th September Adam began his journey of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro – all in aid of ectodermal dysplasia and the ED Society. Adam’s friend Andrew is joining him on this adventure and is fundraising for Marie Curie.

They plan to summit Sunday morning and will make it back down for Monday evening – updating us along the way.

Why this challenge?

Adam first got in contact with us back in October 2022 after signing up to take on the Mount Kilimanjaro Trek through Choose a Challenge.

We are super nervous for him – what a huge task to take on but wow, what an achievement and to fundraise for us is amazing!

“In September 2023 I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the ED Society. ” Adam says.

“I have chosen the ED Society as they have been extremely supportive to my friend, Leonie, and her family in helping with medical referrals and operations from a very young age.”

The Trek

Rising from the savannah at 5,895m above sea level stands the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Summit the highest point in Africa on an extraordinary adventure that will see you making your way through beautiful cloud forests, passing ridges and valleys and otherworldly, lunar landscapes towards the snow-capped peaks of the Roof of Africa, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking sunrises, star-filled skies and far-reaching views across the wild plains of Tanzania.

This is a multi-day trek to a significant altitude. You will need to be determined and resilient to face the sub-zero temperatures and very thin air of the mountain peak. Tough, but truly rewarding, this challenge will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

Adam has taken on this huge challenge, and been so proactive in his fundraising all on his own. He has held a couple of coffee mornings and pub quizzes over the last year, raising £850 and £585 alone.

His fundraising target was £4690 – and he has smashed it. He is now over £5000 and still going.

Help Adam reach the peak by making a donation today to support his incredible journey.

“Funds raised will help the ED Society provide support services and hope to families, like Leonie, alongside working towards finding treatment for ED. In addition to providing referrals to specialists and promoting awareness to the general public.

I know Kilimanjaro will be challenging but it is something I am incredibly excited about. It will be extremely rewarding to reach the “Roof of Africa” knowing that my fundraising is going towards a great cause.”
